Solo Recital: University of Hawai'i at Manoa

  • Orvis Auditorium Honolulu (map)

Hawai'i favorites, soprano Rachel Schutz and pianist Jonathan Korth, joined by clarinetist-extraordinaire Jim Moffit, present an evening of traditional and unusual art song and chamber music from around the world. They begin with Schubert's iconic "The Shepherd on the Rock," a piece that essentially started the genre of chamber music with voice. They'll also introduce Hawai'i audiences to some jazzy Jack Gottlieb trios, as well as give a preview to the world premier of Jeff Myer's "The Hula Manō" set to Hawaiian text. Paired with these trio pieces will be some hyper-romantic songs of Sergei Rachmaninoff, some lesser-known Scandinavian art songs by Grieg, Rangström and Sibelius, and finally Benjamin Britten's epic "Les Illuminations."
